Life is all about growth, and Carrie Underwood has been incredibly candid about her journey as a mother, both before and after pregnancy. Recently, she pulled back the curtain on the challenges she faced during the birth of her second son, Jacob Bryan, offering a raw and relatable glimpse into her experience.
Carrie Underwood Shares Her Honest Thoughts on Pregnancy Recovery
For Carrie, the recovery process after having her first child, Isaiah, was relatively smooth. But when it came to her second child, Jacob, things didn’t go as expected. "After having my first kid [Isaiah, 4], I felt like I bounced back fast. And then with Jake, it was like my body took a minute to get back to me," the 36-year-old singer confessed during an appearance at the CALIA by Carrie Underwood winter getaway in Aspen. "It was frustrating, because I’m like, 'Why wasn’t it like the first time?'"
But as she reflected on her experience, Carrie realized that age plays a role in how our bodies respond to pregnancy and childbirth. "I’m four years older. That also helped me shift my mindset — I’m still working hard, wanting to be the best me possible, but cutting myself some slack and just thinking, 'Be kind to yourself.' It’s amazing what we [women] do to ourselves. We’re probably all our toughest critics," she added.

Learning to Embrace Life’s Little Indulgences
Carrie’s openness extends beyond her physical recovery. She also spoke candidly about her thoughts on so-called "cheat days," sharing her philosophy on enjoying life without guilt. "I don’t like to call them ‘cheat days’ — you’re just enjoying life," the Grammy-winning artist told People magazine. "I feel like holiday time can be stressful when it comes to health and fitness, but it doesn’t have to be. You can just say, 'I’m going to enjoy myself on the holidays.'"
For Carrie, the key is balance. "It’s all about friends and family and food and parties, and indulging responsibly," she explained. "And when New Year’s is over, get back on the horse. It’s like, 'Okay, I’ve had my holiday fun. Now it’s time to get back on my path.' So true!"

Carrie’s Secret to Staying Fit and Feeling Great
Carrie isn’t just about preaching self-compassion; she’s also shared some practical tips for staying motivated after pregnancy. "Putting together a fashionable but also functional outfit gives me a little boost when going to the gym — especially when I need an extra push or I’m not feeling my best," she revealed. "I try to put a cute look together with my favorite pieces — a legging with a pattern on the bottom, a cute and comfortable tank, and a zip-up hoodie to complete the outfit."
It’s clear that Carrie’s approach to life is all about balance, self-care, and a dash of style. We’re so glad to see her embracing this mindset and sharing her journey with us!
