Hey there, friends! Let's talk about something that happens to all of us—holiday weight gain. It’s that magical time of year when we indulge in delicious food and cozy moments. But once the confetti settles and the new year rolls in, it’s time to hit the reset button. For Kate Hudson, like many of us, the start of 2020 meant stepping on the scale to see where she stood after the festive season. Lucky for her, she wasn’t too far from her "happy number." So, how did she handle it? Let’s dive in!
Kate’s Honest Moment: Facing the Scale
Now, Kate Hudson isn’t just a Hollywood star; she’s also a mom of three and a fitness enthusiast. In a candid moment, the 40-year-old actress shared a video on her Instagram Stories, showing herself stepping onto a scale in comfy sweatpants with a pop of red toenails. “So, post-holiday, I’m basically at 136 pounds,” she wrote over the clip, adding with a wink, “I always round up! Ideal weight for me is 125.”
But here’s the thing—Kate wasn’t discouraged. In fact, she took it in stride. “I wasn’t impressed, but that’s okay because I know how to handle this,” she said. That’s the kind of positive attitude we can all learn from, right? It’s not about beating yourself up but understanding where you are and how to move forward.

Understanding Weight Fluctuations

Kate went on to explain why she might not have hit her goal yet. “Let’s break it down,” she said. “I’m going to say 3 to 5 pounds is mostly water weight. And hey, I’m a muscle frame, so I weigh more even though I’m lean. That’s something important for people to understand! Muscle is a happy number, and it’s all about how you feel, not just the number on the scale.”
Back to Her Goal Weight
We have no doubt that Kate will reach her ideal weight in no time. After all, this isn’t the first time she’s bounced back. Remember when she gave birth to her 1-year-old daughter, Rani Rose, back in October 2018? She quickly shed her baby weight and by April 2019, she was well on her way to having the body she dreamed of. How did she do it? Discipline, yes, but also balance.
“Okay, my friends, I wanted to share this with you,” she wrote on Instagram at the time. “I’m just a couple of pounds away from my goal weight! I’ve done it without stressing about food or working out like crazy, although I have been disciplined. I’ve taken my time, stayed true to my Weight Watchers app, and I’m so grateful for the support they’ve given me.”
View this post on InstagramOkay my friends, wanted to share! I’m a couple lbs from goal weight! I’ve done it without stressing on food or working out like crazy although I have been disciplined. I’ve taken my time, I’ve stayed true to my @ww app which I am so grateful for our relationship and that they included me in their family because it’s an incredible set up. Easy as pie! And I can eat pie… except it’s anywhere from 9-22 points which is not the best move… I personally go for the 5 point wine or vodka martini for a treat 😳 I digress… What I am posting is a huge gratitude post! I feel lucky that my other work life (when my entrepreneur hat 🎩 is on) is surrounded by the most inspiring people. To every single person in the @fabletics community and every person in the @ww community, you keep me focused and encouraged. I thank you! Yes, active lifestyle I find enjoyable and yes, understanding food is a passion of mine but it doesn’t mean that I don’t need the support like everyone else. Sharing the little parts of my wellness journey with you makes me feel oh so good. I can only hope that what I put out there can make you feel good and bring encouragement in return. Love, Kate 🙏 PS I ain’t done yet! 😜 #NoFilter #AndILoveAFilter 😉
