If you haven’t been feeling a little envious of Ellen DeGeneres lately, then you’re not paying attention. The beloved talk show host recently shared a story about her weekend adventure that involved traveling all the way to Texas to catch a Dallas Cowboys game with her wife, Portia de Rossi. But here’s the kicker: Ellen ended up sitting next to none other than former President George W. Bush. That’s right—Ellen, the gay Hollywood liberal, spent part of her weekend chatting with a former conservative Republican president. Talk about an unexpected friendship!

A Weekend to Remember

During an episode of her show, Ellen couldn’t help but dive into the details of what happened that weekend. “So, let me tell you something that happened this past weekend,” Ellen said to her studio audience, her signature grin lighting up the room. “I went to Dallas for a Cowboys game. Now, you might be thinking, 'Big deal, a celebrity going to a football game.’ But here’s the thing—I don’t usually leave my house! So, yeah, this was a pretty big deal for me.”

Ellen went on to explain that she and Portia were invited to the game by Charlotte Jones, the daughter of Cowboys owner Jerry Jones. They got to sit in a luxurious suite, which Ellen described as “fancy,” complete with all the amenities you’d expect from a high-end experience. She even showed a video clip of their seats, giving fans a glimpse of the star-studded lineup of guests seated nearby. And, as it turned out, the former U.S. President George W. Bush and his wife, Laura, were right there next to them.

Of course, this unexpected seating arrangement didn’t go unnoticed. Social media erupted with opinions, many questioning why Ellen, a known advocate for LGBTQ+ rights and liberal values, would be sitting comfortably next to a former Republican president. “They thought, ‘Why is a gay Hollywood liberal sitting next to a conservative Republican president?’” Ellen joked, adding with a laugh, “They didn’t even notice I was holding the brand-new iPhone 11!”

But Ellen didn’t shy away from addressing the controversy head-on. She used the moment to share her perspective on the importance of kindness and understanding across political divides. “Here’s the thing,” Ellen explained. “I’m friends with George Bush. In fact, I’m friends with a lot of people who don’t share the same beliefs as I do. We’re all different, and that’s okay. Just because I don’t agree with someone on everything doesn’t mean I can’t be friends with them.”

    Being Kind to Everyone

Ellen emphasized that her message of kindness extends beyond just those who share her views. “When I say, ‘Be kind to one another,’ I don’t just mean the people who think the same way you do,” she said. “I mean everyone. It’s important to remember that we can still find common ground and treat each other with respect, even if we don’t see eye-to-eye on everything.”

This wasn’t the first time Ellen has crossed paths with influential figures. Back in September, during the season 17 premiere of her show, she shared a story about meeting Duchess Meghan and Prince Harry. “Here’s a sentence I never thought I’d say,” Ellen joked, “but I spent the afternoon with Prince Harry and Meghan. Seriously, though, they’re amazing. They’re such a cute couple and so down-to-earth.”

    Ellen's Circle of Friends

It’s clear that Ellen’s circle of friends is as diverse as it is impressive. From world leaders to A-list celebrities, she seems to have a knack for connecting with people from all walks of life. And while some may question her choices, Ellen remains steadfast in her belief that kindness and understanding are the keys to bridging divides. So, yeah, we’re definitely a little jealous of Ellen’s ability to make friends with everyone she meets. But more importantly, we’re inspired by her commitment to kindness and her willingness to see the good in everyone.
