Kate Middleton's Kitchen Adventures: Cooking Curries And Family Fun

Kate Middleton's favourite foods: what the British royal likes to eat

It turns out Duchess Kate doesn’t need a royal chef to whip up meals for her family. She loves doing it herself! During her visit to the Aga Khan Centre in London on October 2, the 37-year-old royal shared her culinary adventures, revealing that curry is a family favorite—but it comes with a twist. Preparing curry for her family is no small feat because she has to make three different versions to satisfy everyone’s taste buds.

“Cooking curry for the family is such a challenge,” the Duchess of Cambridge admitted with a laugh. “The kids get a portion without any spice,” she explained. Turning to her husband, Prince William, she added, “Yours is medium, and I like mine on the hotter side.” It sounds like Kate’s palate leans toward the spicier end of the spectrum, while the kids prefer milder flavors.

Among her three children—Prince George, 5, Princess Charlotte, 4, and Prince Louis, 1—Kate confessed that her middle child, Charlotte, handles spice better than the others. “Charlotte is pretty good with heat,” she said with pride. But Prince William? Well, he’s on the opposite end of the spectrum. “Me and heat? Not so great,” he joked. “I love spice, just not the heat.”

Kate and William were at the Aga Khan Centre to celebrate Pakistani culture and are set to visit the Middle Eastern country on their next royal tour. Despite William’s aversion to overly spicy food, he’s still thrilled about the trip. “I’m really looking forward to it,” he said enthusiastically, before adding with a laugh, “I might need a bigger suit for all the delicious food I’ll be eating!”

While Kate and William’s children will surely miss them during their upcoming royal tour, they can still keep the home fires burning by helping out in the kitchen. Charlotte and George have already started assisting their mom, which means they can whip up all their favorite meals with just a little supervision.

Teaching the Next Generation of Royal Chefs

On February 5, during Children’s Mental Health Week, Kate revealed that she’s been teaching her kids how to cook. During a conversation with Matthew Kleiner-Mann, the chief executive of the Ivy Learning Trust, she shared her excitement about her children’s culinary skills. “She was telling us how much her kids love cooking and how they cook for her,” Kleiner-Mann explained. “They made cheesy pasta the other day. One stirs the flour, one adds the milk and butter. They even make salads and other dishes. Food is important to her, and she understands the connection between mental health and physical activity.”
