Lorna Luft Keeps Her Mother's Legacy Alive

Let me tell you something—Lorna Luft is on a mission. Her mom, the legendary Judy Garland, might have left this world more than 50 years ago, but Lorna is doing everything she can to keep her mother’s inspiring legacy alive. During an exclusive chat with Closer Weekly at the “Rebels With a Cause” Gala on October 24, the 66-year-old opened up about her mom’s career and why it’s so important to her to honor the real Judy Garland.

Here's the thing. Lorna admitted that she's always been fiercely protective of her mother's legacy. When asked about Renée Zellweger's portrayal of Judy in the new film, Lorna had some thoughts. "Listen, if you really want to know about my mom, go watch her movies, rent her TV shows, and listen to her recordings," she said. "She's my mom, and I want people to see the real deal. The real Judy Garland." It’s clear that Lorna wants the world to experience her mother's genuine artistry, not just someone else's interpretation of it.

Why Watching the Film Wasn’t Enough for Lorna

Lorna explained that while watching the movie wasn’t necessarily hard, it didn’t do her mom justice. "Here’s the truth. If you really want to understand my mom, you need to dive into her work," the Grease 2 actress suggested. "Think about it. By the time my mom was 37, she'd already made 39 movies. That tells you everything you need to know about her dedication and passion for her craft." Lorna wants people to experience the real Judy Garland, the one who lived and breathed her art.

"We do this by letting people know about her incredible work, her artistry, and what she meant to the history of this industry," she explained. It’s all about honoring her mom’s contribution to the world of entertainment.

Fighting On: Lorna’s Journey Since Her Diagnosis

The author of A Star Is Born: Judy Garland and the Film that Got Away also opened up about her life since being diagnosed with a brain tumor in March 2019. Lorna revealed that even though her mom isn’t physically here anymore, she still finds strength in her memory. "I’m still fighting. I’m not done. The key is to never give up, never give in," she said. Lorna’s determination is nothing short of inspiring, and it’s clear that her mom continues to be her guiding light.
