A Legacy of Love: Ron Howard Keeps His Father's Memory Alive

One of the biggest influences in his life was his father, the late Rance Howard, whose memory continues to inspire him every day.
In a heartfelt Instagram post, Ron Howard, now 65, paid tribute to his dad on what would have been his 91st birthday. “My dad, #RanceHoward would’ve been 91 today,” Ron wrote on November 17. “He passed just under two years ago, and we sure miss him. He loved acting and writing, but being in westerns made him the happiest! Happy Birthday, Dad!”

A Family Man Through and Through
Ron Howard took the time to share another post on Instagram, this one featuring a warm family photo that included his children. “He was a terrific character actor but an even better family man,” Ron wrote. The comment section quickly filled with love and admiration for the legendary actor and director. His daughter, Paige, couldn’t help but chime in, saying, “Love you so much Granddad.” It’s moments like these that remind us how important family is, even when loved ones are no longer with us.
Ron’s fans didn’t hesitate to express their condolences and appreciation for his dad. “Sorry about the loss of your Dad. He’ll always be remembered in the hearts of those he cherished the most: his loving family,” one commenter wrote. Another added, “Sorry about your Dad. I’m sure he was an amazing person.” It’s clear that Rance Howard left a lasting impact on everyone who had the privilege of knowing him.
A Life Well Lived
Rance Howard, who also had a son named Clint, passed away on November 17, 2017, due to heart failure. At the time, Ron shared the heartbreaking news with his Twitter followers. “Clint [and] I have been blessed to be Rance Howard’s sons. Today he passed at 89,” Ron wrote. “He stood especially tall for his ability to balance ambition with great personal integrity. A depression-era farm boy, his passion for acting changed the course of our family history. We love and miss you, Dad.”
Today, Ron Howard continues to carry forward the legacy of his father as he raises his own family. He shares four children—Bryce, 38, Paige and Jocelyn, both 34, and Reed, 32—with his wife, Cherry. The Howard name carries immense pride, especially for their eldest child.

“I feel very fortunate to come from my family, and actually when I first started acting, I was just ‘Bryce Dallas,’ and my parents one day asked me, ‘Are you not proud of our family?’ And so yeah, I love my family,” the Jurassic World actress once admitted while at the Toronto International Film Festival on September 6.
The Howard family is built on a foundation of love, respect, and admiration, and Rance Howard played a pivotal role in creating that bond. His influence continues to resonate through the generations, proving that a great father’s impact never truly fades.
