Deana Martin Reveals How She Keeps Dad Dean Martin's Memory Alive

He was the king of swing, the man who made us all fall in love with the smooth sound of jazz and crooning. Dean Martin, one of the most iconic singers of the mid-20th century, may no longer be with us, but his legacy lives on through his daughter, Deana Martin. She’s made it her mission to ensure that her father’s memory remains as vibrant and alive as ever.

In a heartfelt conversation with Closer Weekly, Deana, now 71, shared her dedication to honoring her father's legacy. “I record all of his music and perform in my shows, and I bring that same sense of humor that he had,” she said during an exclusive interview at a special Diamond Gala for Patsy’s Italian Restaurant's 75th Anniversary Celebration. “That’s how I keep him alive — with respect. I learned from the best: my dad, Frank Sinatra, Sammy Davis Jr., and of course, I grew up around legends like Rosemary Clooney and Bobby Darin. They’ve taught me so much about life, music, and the art of connecting with people.”

Special Memories at Patsy's Italian Restaurant

Deana, a successful singer in her own right, reminisced about the cherished moments she spent with her father and his close friend, Frank Sinatra, especially at their favorite dining spot, Patsy’s Italian Restaurant. “My favorite memory here was coming with my dad and Uncle Frank,” she recalled fondly. “I was just a little girl back in the '60s, and through the years, I would always return. There’s nothing like having spaghetti and meatballs — it’s my absolute favorite dish. It feels like coming home, but with even better food.”

    A Lifelong Passion for Music

Surrounded by music legends throughout her life, it’s no wonder Deana chose to follow in her father’s footsteps. In fact, she spends an incredible "280 days out of the year" touring. But what keeps her motivated? “I truly love what I do, and I believe it’s something I was meant to do,” she explained. “I feel like I was born to perform, and maybe that’s why I was named Deana Martin. It’s hard work, though! My dad made it look so effortless, but it’s not easy. The music industry is tough, demanding, and requires a lot of dedication, but I wouldn’t trade it for anything.”
