It’s only been a few days since Kelly Clarkson’s new talk show premiered on Monday, September 9, but the powerhouse singer is already dreaming big when it comes to her guest list. During a recent stop at SiriusXM studios, Kelly opened up about her ultimate dream guest for The Kelly Clarkson Show: none other than the legendary Meryl Streep. If you’re thinking, “Who wouldn’t want Meryl on their show?” well, you’re not alone. Kelly herself admitted that having the Oscar-winning actress appear on her program would be a dream come true.

Why Meryl Streep Is Kelly’s Ultimate Dream Guest

In a candid conversation with Andy Cohen, the 43-year-old songstress revealed just how much she admires Meryl Streep. “Oh, well my ultimate is Meryl, but that won’t happen,” Kelly joked during their chat. But she quickly followed up, “It’s my ultimate goal. I love her.” It’s clear that Kelly holds Meryl in the highest regard, and who can blame her? From her iconic role in Mamma Mia! to her countless other unforgettable performances, Meryl Streep has cemented her status as one of the greatest actresses of all time. Kelly couldn’t help but rave about the star, but she also admitted that she hasn’t yet watched the second season of Big Little Lies, which features Meryl herself.

Why Kelly Passed on Watching ‘Big Little Lies’ Season 1

Kelly explained to Andy, who is 51 years old, why she skipped the first season of Big Little Lies. “Here’s the thing, I read the book. I’m a fan of Liane Moriarty, I read a few of her books actually before that came out,” Kelly said. “I am not down with watching abuse, so I couldn’t watch the first season—I didn’t want to see it play out visually. Reading it was hard enough,” she confessed. But when it came to the second season, Kelly felt more inclined to tune in. “And then the second season, I heard [Meryl] is on, and it’s like not as intense, so I’m like, ‘OK, I’ll watch it,’” she added.

    Kelly’s Preference for Lighter Entertainment

Kelly, who has been open about her tough childhood since her rise to fame in 2002, explained that she tends to gravitate toward lighter, more uplifting forms of entertainment. “I’m all about Talladega Nights and funny stuff,” the “Piece by Piece” singer said. “I want escapism or like, funny stuff. I don’t watch anything dark or depressing.” It’s clear that Kelly values content that lifts her spirits and brings joy to her life.

Kelly’s Excitement About Her New Role as a TV Host

Before her show’s premiere, Kelly expressed her excitement about adding “TV host” to her already impressive resume. “I love being busy,” she told People magazine. “The schedule is intense but I actually work really well under pressure.” It’s clear that Kelly thrives in high-pressure situations, and her new talk show is no exception.

    Family Comes First for Kelly

Despite her increasingly busy schedule, Kelly has made it a priority to stay present in the lives of her four children. “When we were doing the schedule for the show, I was like, ‘I have to drop my kids off at school and I’m always the one who puts them to bed,’” the “Because of You” singer explained. Kelly, who is the mom of River Rose, 5, and Remington, 3, as well as the stepmom to husband Brandon Blackstock’s children Savannah, 16, and Seth, 12, knows the importance of balancing her career with family time. “You just have to prioritize and juggle and make people know it’s an important thing,” she said. “And don’t feel guilty about it.”
