Marie Osmond Opens Up About Losing Her Father And Finding Strength

Marie Osmond Recalls Father's 2007 Death: 'I Felt Like an Orphan'

Let’s talk about Marie Osmond, the iconic singer, and the emotional journey she’s been through since losing her father, George Osmond. More than a decade has passed, but for Marie, the pain still lingers. On September 24, during an episode of The Talk, the 59-year-old star opened up about the moment she learned of her dad’s passing and how it profoundly impacted her life. It was raw, heartfelt, and a powerful reminder of the strength it takes to keep moving forward.

A Glimpse Into Heartbreak

Marie shared with her co-hosts that the loss of her father was devastating. “It was so hard to keep going,” she admitted. “My father was a man who always said, ‘You keep going. No matter what, you push through.’” But when she found herself on the set of Dancing with the Stars in 2007, competing while dealing with the news of her dad’s death, it hit her like a ton of bricks. “I remember walking into rehearsal that day,” she recalled. “It was the first time I stepped into that door, and I just froze. I thought, ‘I can’t go in there.’”

“I Felt Like an Orphan”

Marie went on to explain how deeply personal the loss felt. “I’m Dad’s little girl,” she said, her voice trembling. “I was born on his birthday, so you can imagine how close we were. But all of a sudden, my dad was gone, and my mom had already passed. I felt like an orphan. My brothers are great, but let’s be honest—they’re lousy sisters.” It’s a bittersweet moment, filled with both humor and heartache, showing just how much her family meant to her.

Season 5 of DWTS: A Tough Time

Marie reflected on her time competing on season 5 of Dancing with the Stars, a season marked by personal challenges. “We were filming, but so much was happening in my life,” she told her co-stars Eve, Carrie Ann Inaba, Sheryl Underwood, and guest host Katherine Schwarzenegger, who filled in for Sharon Osbourne. “My son had to enter rehab, I was in the middle of a custody battle, and I was going through a terrible divorce. It was overwhelming.”

    Honoring Her Parents Through Dance

Marie chose a special song for her dance routine on DWTS, one that held deep meaning for her family. “When my parents first got married, they didn’t have much money,” she explained. “They would go to dance contests to figure out what they were going to eat that week. It was their way of making ends meet, and it was such a big part of their story.” Holding back tears, she continued, “I chose ‘Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy’ in honor of them. I called my dad before the performance and told him, ‘This is for you and Mom.’”
