A Legend Returns: Mary Wilson Joins 'Dancing With the Stars'
As Mary Wilson gears up to dazzle audiences as part of the season 28 cast of Dancing With the Stars, the world is taking a moment to celebrate her incredible legacy. Known as one of the founding members of The Supremes, Mary has achieved so much in her illustrious career. However, when you sit down and chat with her, she'll tell you that nothing compares to the joy of being a mother. It’s a role she cherishes deeply, even after all these years.
“There’s nothing like the bond between a mother and her children,” the 75-year-old legend shared with Times magazine. “I always dreamed of being married and having kids. Even during my busiest times performing, I embraced every moment of pregnancy. In fact, I’d often have my stage dresses altered into maternity gowns so I could keep working right up until the ninth month.”

Life in the Spotlight: Balancing Motherhood and Fame
Mary recalls one particularly memorable moment from her career that highlights the challenges of juggling motherhood and fame. “I was performing at Drury Lane in London, and I remember nursing my daughter Turkessa right before I went on stage,” she said. “The nanny had to practically pull her away from me so I could get out there. My daughter later told me she didn’t think I was the best mom, but then again, whose kids don’t feel that way when their parents are stars? You give your heart to millions on stage, but by the time you get home, you’re exhausted.”

Despite the difficulties, Mary insists her daughter now understands the sacrifices she made. “Turkessa sees things differently now. She understands what it meant to be a single parent trying to make it in the music industry.”
Grieving and Moving Forward: The Loss of a Son
Tragically, Mary lost her son Rafael in 1994 following a car accident. He was only 16 years old. “It was one of the hardest things I’ve ever had to face,” Mary admitted. “But my son Pedro Jr. taught me something important. He told me that losing Rafael felt like having a hole in your heart. And I told him, yes, it does, but you still have your heart. You don’t stop living just because of the pain.”
Though Mary never remarried or had more children, she remains surrounded by love and support. As she prepares to compete on Dancing With the Stars, she knows she’ll have plenty of loved ones cheering her on.
