Here's a story about life lessons, love, and the quiet celebrations of two Hollywood legends. Michael Douglas turned 75 on September 25, sharing the same birthday as his wife, Catherine Zeta-Jones, who turned 50. But instead of throwing a lavish party, the couple opted for something more intimate and meaningful.
Why They Skipped the Big Bash
“We started planning a big celebration, but then we realized it was just too much,” Michael revealed exclusively to Closer Weekly during a recent Paley Center Honors Luncheon in NYC. “It felt overwhelming, and we decided we could celebrate another time. Besides, we have a bunch of friends who share the same birthday, so we’re going to their parties and stay under the radar.”

This approach aligns with one of the key lessons Michael has learned throughout his life. "I've learned to take things at a steady pace," he explained. "I'm not a surfer, but I admire how surfers can sit patiently, waiting for the perfect wave, and when it comes, they're ready to ride it. That's how I approach life—waiting for the right moment to act."

A Career Wave
Michael is currently riding the crest of another wave in his illustrious career. His award-winning role as an acting teacher in Netflix's The Kominsky Method has brought him renewed acclaim. The show's second season premiered on October 25. "I've always been fascinated by comedy," Michael admitted. Known for dramatic roles like his Oscar-winning portrayal of Gordon Gekko in 1987's Wall Street, he added, "I’m learning something new and enjoying every moment of it."
For Michael, the most important life lesson he's carried with him is the belief that "kindness is not weakness." He strives to be a good citizen of the world, always looking out for those less fortunate. "It's about giving back and being compassionate," he said.
