Savannah Guthrie Opens Up About Battling Pneumonia: A Tough Week for the Today Show Host

Hey there, friends! So, you know Savannah Guthrie, the radiant face of the Today show? Well, she wasn't in the studio on Friday, September 20, and there's a reason for that. She opened up about her health, revealing that she's been dealing with pneumonia all week. Let's dive in and see how she's handling this tough situation.

Pneumonia Takes Savannah Off the Air

Now, Savannah, who's always full of energy, was feeling pretty down. She called into the show to update her cohosts—Carson Daly, Craig Melvin, and Hoda Kotb. She shared, "I was talking to my mom yesterday, and she said, 'Savannah, you've never been this sick in your entire life!' And you know what? She's absolutely right. I've never felt so completely wiped out and miserable. It's not just a little cold; it's a lot more serious." Savannah went on to explain the symptoms she's been dealing with. "The fever is relentless—it's not a simple cold. I couldn't get the fever to break, so I've been on constant medication to keep it under control. And then, this terrible cough started, which hasn't let up."

    Surprise Diagnosis

Savannah was genuinely taken aback by her diagnosis. "Honestly, I was shocked when I found out it was pneumonia. I thought I was breathing okay, no wheezing or anything, so I was really surprised when the doctor said that's what it was," she admitted. "I thought maybe it was the flu, but the flu test came back negative. Every day, I would tell our bosses, 'I'll probably be in tomorrow,' but then I'd have another night of sweating, freezing, and aching. It was brutal."

    Could It Be the Kids?

Savannah, who shares two adorable kids, Vale (5) and Charley (2) with her husband Michael Feldman, suspects her eldest might have passed on the illness. "Vale had pneumonia recently, and I remember thinking, 'Wow, I can't believe none of us got it.' I never imagined that two weeks later, it could still be lurking around," she said. This isn't the first time Savannah has missed TV appearances due to illness. Earlier this year, she couldn't make it to The Tonight Show, and her buddy Hoda had to handle the interview solo.

Hoda Kotb stepped in during Savannah's absence, sharing the details with Tonight Show host Jimmy Fallon. "I wish Savannah could have been here; she actually got really sick," Hoda explained on February 20. "One of her kids got sick and passed it on to her. I was texting her, asking, 'Are you sure you can't make it?' And she replied, 'I'm completely laid out.' It seems like everyone's been hit with something lately."

We're all rooting for Savannah, hoping she gets back on her feet soon and returns to brightening our mornings on the Today show!
