Wow, talk about making a difference! Chip Gaines and Joanna Gaines, the beloved couple from HGTV, have done it again. These two are truly angels walking among us. On June 26, they traveled all the way to Memphis, Tennessee, to deliver a whopping $1.5 million check to St. Jude Children’s Hospital. That’s some serious generosity right there!
But wait, there’s more! Not only did Chip, who’s 44, and Joanna, who’s 41, hand over that incredible amount of money, but they also gifted the St. Jude Target House with a brand-new, permanent playhouse. And guess what? They designed it themselves. During this heartwarming event, the former Fixer Upper stars spent time with the kids, played some tunes on the piano, sang together, and even read Joanna’s children’s book, We Are the Gardeners, to the little ones.

A Heartfelt Moment
Chip shared a powerful moment during the event when he spoke about what it all means to him and Joanna. “As we walked in today, a little boy told us that he’s ‘demo day-ing’ his cancer treatment, and that’s pretty much the best thing I’ve ever heard,” Chip said with a smile. “In our world, demo day marks the end of one chapter and the beginning of a newer, more exciting one. And that’s exactly what we want for you — we’re pulling for each and every one of you.”

Designing Something Special
Joanna went on to explain how they wanted to create something truly special for the St. Jude Target House, which offers free accommodations to families of children battling cancer. “When we heard that the space outside of Target House could use a little love, we knew right away that we wanted to create a sweet playhouse for the kids to enjoy,” Joanna said with enthusiasm. “There’s something magical about spending time together outdoors, and while we’re hopeful that these families won’t have to stay here for very long, we wanted to give them a retreat to explore while they are here.”

A Whimsical Playhouse
Joanna dished on the details of the playhouse, which sits behind an archway covered in vibrant flowers. Inside this charming getaway, there’s a small green table with chairs, plastic food, and even a pretend kitchen where kids can imagine themselves as chefs. Joanna gushed, “Our hope is that this space brings a bit of joy to the families here. We wanted it to feel whimsical and fun, a place where everyone can unwind.”
In 2017, the Gaines family first visited Memphis to reveal their redesign of the dining room at the St. Jude Target House. That same year, Chip blew past his initial goal of raising $25,000 in under a week, bringing in an impressive $230,000 for the charity.

Building on that success, Chip and Joanna set out to raise $500,000 this year. But guess what? They ended up presenting St. Jude with a check for $1.5 million. This money ensures that families dealing with childhood cancer will never have to worry about paying for treatment, travel, housing, or food. Incredible, right?
Chip and Joanna Gaines continue to inspire us all with their kindness and generosity. Their actions remind us of the power of community and the importance of giving back. Simply amazing!
