For well over a year now, J.D. Scott, the beloved star of Property Brothers at Home, has been quietly battling a mysterious illness. Now, he’s decided it’s time to share his story with his fans in a heartfelt and vulnerable way. In a candid Instagram post, J.D. revealed just how tough the past 14 months have been for him and his fiancée, Annalee Belle.
From Hospital Beds to Hope: J.D.'s Journey
J.D., who’s 43, took to Instagram earlier this week to deliver some heavy news to his followers. In a lengthy video, he opened up about his battle with an illness that has left doctors scratching their heads. "I’ve been quite sick for the last 14 months. It all started around May 2018, but there were symptoms before that," J.D. explained. "Things got so bad that I ended up in the hospital, and that’s when the whole process began." He went on to share how dire the situation had become. "That event was so bad, I thought I was dying. I was preparing all my estate and everything for Annalee," he recalled, his voice heavy with emotion.

The Road to Diagnosis
J.D., the older brother of TV stars Drew and Jonathan Scott, revealed that his journey to diagnosis was anything but straightforward. "After months and months of testing, they determined it wasn’t lupus, but they found two brain aneurysms," he shared. The endless tests and uncertainty took a toll on him, but then he crossed paths with Dr. Scott Jacobson, a functional physician who approached his case with a blend of Western and holistic medicine. "Dr. Jacobson discovered an infection that was causing my body to react as if it had an autoimmune disease," J.D. explained. "My antibodies were through the roof, and it was pretty intense."
Finding a Path Forward
With the help of antibiotics and a carefully planned diet, J.D. began to see some improvement. "I have gotten better," he said, a note of hope in his voice. "There were moments recently where I felt like my old self again, and that’s been incredible. But let’s be real, this kind of thing doesn’t happen overnight. It takes time, patience, and a lot of hard work."

Isolation and Gratitude
J.D. and Annalee also spoke candidly about the isolation they’ve felt during this difficult journey. "A lot of people just haven’t checked in, and they know how bad it is. It’s felt kind of lonely," Annalee admitted. J.D. added, "Not having the friends that you normally have around is tough. It’s been a challenge." Despite the struggles, the couple expressed immense gratitude for their fans, who have rallied around them with love and support.
View this post on InstagramI had some amazing companies that went above and beyond during this project. First one being, @eatonlightingdivision who I had mentioned loving their new Halo Home line of LED products. You know what they did? Offered to send me ALL the lighting for the entire project. That is unbelievably kind of them as these lights are the best I have ever used. Why? Every one of them can be access from your phone, dimmed or you can even change the color temperature from Warm to Cool. These are now the standard for all the lighting I put in going forward. Thank you Eaton! Lots of luv! ❤️ #ForeverHome #Lighting #LED
We’re so relieved to hear that J.D. is on the road to recovery, and we’re sending all the positive vibes his way. Here’s hoping he continues to get better and finds the strength and support he needs to overcome this challenge.
