Even though Brooks expressed this desire to Julianne, the professional dancer decided to keep her well-known last name. “To me right now, it’s not that big of an issue,” Brooks admitted. “We don’t have any kids yet, but she doesn’t have my last name.”

Brooks went on to share that he’s surprised he hasn’t made a bigger deal about it yet, especially since Julianne and he might want to start a family in the future. “I figured it would be an issue, but I’m surprised for myself now that it’s not an issue,” he explained. “But, it will be interesting to see when we have kids. When we have children, I would want them to have my last name, our last name.”

While this remains an ongoing discussion in their relationship, Brooks is clear that he wants Julianne to feel comfortable with whatever decision they make. “I’m not going to make my wife change her last name if she doesn’t feel comfortable,” he said. “I don’t think that creates a division within our relationship. [To answer the question], I don’t find it disrespectful. I’m obviously open to it, but at the start, yeah, it was a little jarring for me.”
