Let me tell you a story about friendship and legacy. Fans of the iconic '90s drama Beverly Hills, 90210 have been eagerly waiting for the reboot. However, there's a significant void in the upcoming reunion: the late Luke Perry. His former costar, Brian Austin Green, recently opened up about how much they wanted Luke to be part of the project, sharing some heartfelt insights.
Why Luke Perry Couldn't Be Part of the BH90210 Reboot
Life has a way of throwing curveballs, and in this case, it was a tough pill to swallow. Brian, now 45, spoke candidly to People about the challenges of bringing Luke back for the reboot. "It's a hard situation," he admitted. The truth is, Luke was already committed to shooting Riverdale, which made it impossible for him to join the cast full-time. But Brian had hopes. "My honest hope was he would make time to come do at least three episodes," he revealed, highlighting the deep respect and admiration they all had for Luke. "He was awesome," Brian added, his voice filled with nostalgia.
The Script Still Had Luke's Touch
Even though Luke couldn't physically be there, his presence was still felt in the storyline. Brian shared that they made sure to include Luke's input in the script. "We talked to him on the phone because we still wanted his input," he explained. "He was just that kind of guy." Luke's influence went beyond his on-screen character. His absence is deeply felt, and acknowledging that reality has been difficult for the entire cast. "Knowing that that's not a possibility is really hard," Brian confessed, his voice tinged with emotion.

Remembering Luke Perry: A Special Guy
On March 4, the world lost Luke Perry after he suffered a massive stroke at the young age of 52. Tributes poured in from all corners, with Brian expressing his grief on his podcast. "Luke was a special guy," he said, his voice heavy with emotion. "I’m still mourning over it so there’s a part of me that’s kind of shocked that I’m speaking about Luke this way." Brian continued, "We all knew that at some point we’d have to deal with losing cast members and friends—but not this soon. Not at 52. Not in such an abrupt way." Luke was one of those rare individuals who left a positive impression on everyone he met. "Luke was one of those people nobody had a bad story about," Brian reflected. "He was just a great guy and he was Luke no matter where you saw him, no matter when you saw him, no matter what he was going through. He was a rock."
How the Cast Plans to Honor Luke Perry
Gabrielle Carteris, one of the stars of BH90210, revealed that the cast plans to pay tribute to Luke in the upcoming series. "We shot our promos for the first time last week, everybody together. I miss Luke, so that was really noted," she shared. Despite the absence, the cast remains united in their memories and determination to honor their friend. "But it was wild. I felt like time, I’m older. And I felt the memories of what it was like to be on the show in the beginning so, I’m excited," the 58-year-old actress said exclusively to Closer Weekly at the panel for Geena Davis’ This Changes Everything documentary held at the Bentonville Film Festival on May 8.
