Her Fans Are Loving It
The comments section blew up with admiration as people couldn’t get enough of Brooke’s determination. “Insanely dedicated,” one fan gushed. Another chimed in, saying, “You are a superwoman.” One particularly heartfelt comment read, “Wow! You’re making us 50’s gals proud! Well done, you.”
But Brooke’s journey to self-confidence wasn’t always this smooth. In fact, she’s been open about her struggles with body image over the years. Growing up, she faced harsh criticism from none other than her own mother, Teri Shields. “My mom would get drunk and say, ‘Why don’t you move your fat a–,’” Brooke recalled in an interview with PorterEdit. “So I’ve always believed I had a fat a–.”
A Tough Start in Modeling
Even when Brooke entered the modeling world, the criticism didn’t stop. “Even then I didn’t think I had a swimsuit body,” she admitted. “I was a cover girl, not a supermodel. I was ‘neck up’—the face, the eyebrows—and I was always described as ‘athletic’; ‘not rail-thin’; ‘not a runway model.’ Those messages really sink into your mind, you know?”
Thankfully, Brooke found the support she needed in her husband, Chris Henchy. “I used to walk backward out of rooms, and he’d say: ‘No, I want to grab onto you,’” she explained. “He really celebrated my womanliness and my body. And I needed a man to celebrate me.”

Teaching the Next Generation
Brooke and Chris tied the knot in 2001 and have since welcomed two daughters, Rowan, 16, and Grier, 13. Now, as a mother, Brooke hopes to instill valuable lessons in her children. “It’s about finding your power and your strength, owning it honestly and purely, and not having to fight others for it,” she told Closer Weekly during the Glamour Women of the Year Awards in NYC. “Just the presence of it in who you are is what I try to teach them.”
With her relentless spirit and inspiring outlook, Brooke Shields continues to be a beacon of strength and grace. Whether she’s crushing it at the gym or sharing heartfelt advice, she’s truly a role model for us all.
