While filming a movie about Christmas magic, Cameron Mathison felt an overwhelming urge to consult his doctor for a medical test. "The movie is all about being aware of the signs in our lives," Cameron shared, explaining how his decision to get an MRI scan uncovered a malignant tumor on his right kidney. His gut feeling turned out to be life-saving.
Home & Family co-host Cameron Mathison underwent surgery in September to remove the growth and is now cancer-free. "I still feel a bit tired, but I'm almost back to my full strength," the 50-year-old star revealed exclusively to Closer. Cameron had been experiencing discomfort for a while. "I was dealing with persistent indigestion issues. I had requested an MRI earlier, but my doctors didn't think it was necessary," he recalled. His persistence ultimately paid off in the most significant way possible.

Facing the Unthinkable: Cameron's Cancer Diagnosis
The MRI scan confirmed Cameron's intuition, but no one could have prepared him for the diagnosis of cancer. "It felt like I was living through a nightmare," Cameron admitted. However, his wife, Vanessa, stood by his side, reassuring him that they would overcome the challenge. Her unwavering support helped Cameron navigate through one of the toughest periods of his life.

Gratitude and Connection: The Role of Support
Cameron extends his heartfelt gratitude to the Home & Family viewers who reached out to him during this difficult time. "I was overwhelmed by the kindness and compassion I received," he shared. "There were moments when I would read the messages and just break down in tears. It was strange to feel such a deep connection with people I've never met, but it was also incredibly empowering and comforting."
Closing the Circle: Cameron's Return to Acting
As The Christmas Club, the film he was working on at the time of his diagnosis, airs this month, Cameron feels like he's come full circle. "Sometimes life presents us with opportunities if we're paying attention," he reflected. "I truly believe in that." Despite the obstacles he faced, Cameron remains optimistic and hopeful about the future.
