Wow, this is quite the story. Susan Sarandon recently shared an Instagram post showing off a massive bruise around her eye after taking a little tumble that left her with more than just a black eye. The legendary star of Thelma and Louise revealed that she suffered a concussion, a fractured nose, and a banged-up knee in the process. Now, that’s what I call a tough break! On Monday, November 25, she posted a close-up photo of her swollen, bruised eye to Instagram, giving fans a real look at just how serious her injuries were.
In the caption, Susan didn't shy away from using the moment to advocate for something close to her heart—Medicare for All. At 73 years old, she wrote, "I’m lucky. I have Medicare to cover my visit to the ER. Everyone deserves the same, not access, not pathway to, not option.” She went on to emphasize why Medicare for All (M4A) is so important: "M4A saves money. Nobody loses their home because of cancer, no rationing insulin. You know, like the rest of the free world." And to drive her point home, she ended with a strong endorsement: "#bernie2020." Clearly, even through the pain, Susan remains fiercely committed to her political beliefs.

Susan Sarandon’s Fall: The Details
On Friday, November 22, Susan revealed more details about her fall in another Instagram post. She explained that the "little slip" resulted in some serious injuries: a concussion, a fractured nose, and a banged-up knee. The Academy Award-winning actress was supposed to join 2020 presidential candidate Bernie Sanders in New Hampshire for a campaign event, but her injuries forced her to cancel. In her post, Susan expressed her disappointment about missing the opportunity, but she didn't let that stop her from sharing her message of support for Sanders. In fact, she wrote a powerful statement about the urgent need for change in America, emphasizing the importance of bold leadership in the face of crises like climate change, healthcare inequities, and social injustices.
In her initial post, Susan shared two side-by-side photos of her injured eye. The first photo shows a massive bump above her eye, while the second reveals a large bruise covering the left side of her face. It’s clear that this wasn’t just a minor tumble—Susan really took a hit. Fans immediately flooded her comments section with messages of concern and support. One fan wrote, "Oh my goodness… sending healing vibes for a speedy recovery!!" Another chimed in, "Feel better, Susan!!" And a third fan added, "I love your passion for making this world a better place. Sorry you have to miss the event. Hope you heal soon!"
Her Message for Bernie Sanders Supporters
View this post on InstagramA little slip = concussion, fractured nose, banged up knee. So, looks like I won’t be able to meet the folks in New Hampshire with Senator Sanders tomorrow. I’m really sorry I’ll miss that opportunity but here’s what I’d hoped to say: This is an emergency. Ask the scientists, the farmers, the creatures in the sea. Ask all those who have lost their homes from hurricanes, flood and fire, ask the endless stream of climate refugees, and the people of Flint, San Juan, and Standing Rock. This is a emergency. Ask the mothers who have lost their children to the opioid epidemic or because of the price of insulin. Ask the mothers who have lost their kids to gun violence in schools, in churches, in their bedrooms. This is an emergency. Ask those separated from their families at the border, or those separated from their loved ones by an unjust, racist, for-profit prison system. This is an emergency when our young people have no hope for education, for dream-making, because of insurmountable student debt. When teachers are forced to have additional jobs and when 40 hours of honest labor can still leave you in poverty. When homophobia, Islamaphobia, transphobia and racism take lives, that is an emergency. This is not the time for a “pathway” to or “framework” for incremental change. Emergencies require bold, visionary leadership. Senator Sanders believes in us and that together a better world is possible. He has been fighting for social, racial and economic justice his entire life, long before running for President, often before it was acceptable. Now it’s time for us to fight for him.

Fans Hope for a Speedy Recovery
Susan has a busy schedule ahead of her, with numerous projects in the works, including her role in the upcoming film Tunnels. Fans are hoping she recovers quickly so she can get back to doing what she does best—entertaining and inspiring us all. Despite her injuries, Susan remains as passionate and engaged as ever. In fact, a close friend of hers revealed in a 2017 interview with Closer Weekly that Susan feels more confident now than ever before. "A couple of years ago, I asked her if she thinks she’s sexy in a different way than she was in The Rocky Horror Picture Show," the friend recounted. "She said, 'When I see myself younger, I seem so blank. I think I’m more interesting as I get older.'"
Here’s hoping Susan gets back to feeling like her old self soon. Her fans—and the causes she champions—are counting on it!
