Let me tell you, folks, hosting HGTV's newest show Mountain Mamas might sound intimidating, but Jackie Wickens and Trecie Wheat Hughes are absolutely thrilled to be a part of it. In a candid chat with Closer Weekly, these real estate powerhouses opened up about what sets their show apart from other home renovation programs. They're bringing something fresh, something different, and something that's got everyone talking.
What Makes 'Mountain Mamas' Unique?
Jackie shared with Closer Weekly that the format of Mountain Mamas is a little unconventional right from the start. The show premiered its first episode on August 10, 2019, and is set to make a comeback early in 2020. "A lot of the shows focus either on house hunting or renovating," Jackie explained. "But we've been allowed to mix things up. Some episodes focus on house hunting, some on buying, renovating, and even considering renovations or selling. It's a blend that keeps things interesting." That's what makes their show stand out, and it's a formula that resonates with viewers.

Not Your Typical HGTV Show
Considering Jackie and Trecie are two women who aren't related, not a husband-wife duo or brothers, their show offers a refreshing change from HGTV favorites like Property Brothers, House Hunters, and others. Jackie emphasized, "I think it's awesome because it gives us the chance to put ourselves out there and show people that it's not about girl drama. We genuinely support each other and lift each other up. It's fantastic to showcase that kind of camaraderie on TV for others to see." And that's exactly what they're doing.
Montana Real Estate Stars
According to HGTV, Mountain Mamas follows the dynamic duo as they help clients navigate a variety of historic homes, from rustic log cabins to ranch houses in need of some TLC. With Trecie's sharp design sense and Jackie's construction expertise, they discover hidden gems and transform them into dream homes in Montana. The show is all about bringing people's visions to life, one house at a time.
Trecie echoed Jackie's excitement as she explained why she believes HGTV viewers will love their new show. "I think it's a great mix," she said. "We have so much fun, we adore our crew. Honestly, we're cracking jokes half the day. We just have a blast and we're not afraid to get our hands dirty." That's the kind of energy that keeps viewers coming back for more.
Montana: A Different World
Trecie also shared her enthusiasm for putting their beloved Montana on the map. "In Montana, things are different. The focus here, which is part of the reason I adore it, is that life can be simple. People love the outdoors, which means the guys just go hunting and fishing whenever they want. We just jump in, and it's become part of our daily routine." It's this unique blend of work and play that gives the show its authentic charm.

With their new TV show, Jackie and Trecie hope fans will fall in love with their vibrant personalities, even if it means drawing comparisons to HGTV legends like Joanna Gaines and Chip Gaines or Tarek El Moussa and Christina Anstead. They're ready to carve out their own niche in the world of home renovation.

"We've had a lot of that, especially in the beginning," Trecie admitted. "But we just say the truth—we're just ourselves, and that's all we can really be. We're in a different setting too. We're in Montana, and that's a whole different ballgame—the style of the homes, the type of home, the materials you have to use because it could be -20 degrees, the cost of labor, the materials... that's the hardest part, I think." It's this authenticity that makes them relatable and endearing.
