Let’s face it, not many things seem to faze Hollywood legend Michael Douglas. But even this powerhouse actor admits there's one thing that genuinely terrifies him: the idea of his 16-year-old daughter, Carys Zeta Jones, starting to date. During a candid moment at PaleyFest NY, Michael shared his true feelings about his daughter’s budding romantic life. When asked how he’d react if Carys brought home an older boyfriend, the 75-year-old icon didn’t hold back.
“I think it would kill me,” Michael joked to Us Weekly, referring to Carys. “I’d try to support her, but I’d be watching very carefully.” Can you blame him? Parenthood has its challenges, and this one might just top the list for the proud dad. It’s clear that Michael’s protective instincts are in full swing when it comes to his little girl growing up.

Thinking Ahead: Michael and Catherine Discuss Carys's Love Life
It’s no secret that this topic has been weighing heavily on Michael’s mind. In fact, he revealed that he and his wife, the stunning Catherine Zeta-Jones, have already begun discussing when Carys might start dating. The couple, who also share a 19-year-old son named Dylan Douglas, are clearly preparing for this next chapter in their daughter’s life. “We’re very close to the first boyfriend coming,” Michael shared, referring to Carys. “She’s been very picky, but she’s right on the cusp.”

Michael first broached the subject of his daughter’s future dating life while talking about his character, Sandy, in "The Kominsky Method." In this Golden Globe-winning series, Sandy’s daughter, played by actress Sarah Baker, is dating an older man. Clearly, the storyline hit close to home for Michael, sparking deeper reflections on his own family dynamics.
Age Differences: A Double Standard?
Some fans might wonder if Michael’s concerns about Carys dating an older guy are a bit of a double standard. After all, the award-winning actor is 25 years older than his wife, Catherine, who is 50. And let’s not forget, Michael is also 12 years older than his first wife, Diandra Luker, with whom he shares a son, Cameron Douglas, who is now 40. Despite these personal experiences, Michael insists he’s not comfortable with Carys dating someone significantly older.
