Sharon Stone On Aging Gracefully: Her Journey Of Self-Acceptance

When most people think about growing older in Hollywood, it can sound pretty daunting. But here’s the thing—Sharon Stone? She’s not just okay with it; she’s absolutely embracing it. And who wouldn’t be inspired by this iconic Golden Globe-winning actress? Recently, Sharon opened up in a heartfelt way about learning to love her body and even shared a painful moment from her past when she faced body shaming in her 20s. Let’s dive into her story, because trust me, it’s worth hearing.

“You know, I’m so incredibly grateful for my body,” Sharon, now 61, shared candidly with Allure for their November cover story. “When I was younger, I was bombarded with negativity. Everyone around me was pointing out what was supposedly ‘wrong’ with my body—too this, too that. It was relentless. When I starred in Basic Instinct, they hired a makeup artist who slathered on pounds of makeup every single day. And every single day, I’d retreat to my trailer and wipe it all off. I just wanted to feel like myself.”

Embracing Change: Sharon’s Shift in Perspective

Sharon went on to explain how her views on beauty and self-worth have evolved over the years. “As I aged, I realized something powerful—I wanted to be more like a European woman who only gets more beautiful with time. These women understand that real beauty comes with wisdom and experience. Women are inherently more beautiful than girls because they carry a depth of knowledge and understanding that’s truly captivating,” she revealed.

Even though Sharon skyrocketed to fame after her breakout role in Woody Allen’s 1980 film Stardust Memories, she confessed that her favorite decade was actually her “beautiful” 40s. During this time, she took a step back from the relentless grind of Hollywood to focus on her well-being. In 2001, Sharon suffered a stroke, which forced her to reevaluate her priorities and led her to become a devoted mom to her three sons—Roan, Laird, and Quinn.

“I couldn’t work because, let’s face it, women in Hollywood over 40 often struggle to find roles. But honestly, I was okay with that because I had other things to focus on. I was a mom raising three beautiful little boys. I was recovering from a massive brain injury, and I was constantly in custody court battles over my oldest child,” she said. Despite these challenges, Sharon found a silver lining. “There was something magical about that time. Even though no one wanted to date me because I had kids, it was a period of profound growth and self-discovery. I came to understand myself in a way I never had before. It was the time when I felt the most beautiful,” she added.
