Here’s a story about Victor Garber, the talented actor who’s not only known for his incredible performances but also for his openness about living with diabetes. Let’s dive into his inspiring journey and how he’s making a difference.

Victor Garber's Lifelong Battle With Diabetes

At the age of 70, Victor Garber is candid about his lifelong battle with Type 1 diabetes, a condition he’s lived with since he was just 11 years old. While attending the Ovarian Cancer Research Alliance (OCRA) Style Lab, Victor took a moment to speak about the causes close to his heart. “Aside from this one, I’m an advocate for Beyond Type 1 because I’m a Type 1 diabetic,” he told Closer Weekly on November 6. “I have a deeply personal connection to it. And I also support the Alzheimer’s Association because, you know, these diseases affect so many lives.”

Victor’s journey with diabetes isn’t something he shies away from. Instead, he uses his platform to raise awareness and support for others who are navigating similar challenges. His advocacy work is a testament to his commitment to helping others understand and manage their conditions.

When asked about the nature of his condition, Victor made it clear that Type 1 diabetes is a lifelong commitment. “Oh, it’s for life. It doesn’t go away,” he explained. “Type 1 is different from Type 2. With Type 2, lifestyle changes can make a difference and sometimes even reverse the condition. But Type 1? That’s something you live with every single day.”

Despite the challenges, Victor remains proactive in managing his health. “I just try to eat carefully and exercise, like everyone should,” he said. “It’s no secret that taking care of yourself helps you live a longer, healthier life.” His approach to managing diabetes is one of mindfulness and balance, focusing on small, everyday choices that add up to a healthier lifestyle.

For Victor, each day is a new opportunity to take care of himself. “My hope is really to get through the night. To go to bed and wake up—that’s my goal,” he shared. His approach to living with diabetes is one of resilience and gratitude, focusing on the small victories that make life meaningful.

    Victor's Impact Beyond the Screen

Beyond his advocacy for diabetes awareness, Victor is also celebrated for his role in the TV series Alias, where he starred alongside Jennifer Garner and Bradley Cooper. Even though the show ended in 2006, the bond between Victor and Bradley remains strong. “Bradley has forged an intense bond with Victor—and pals say he’s like a second father to him,” an insider revealed to Closer Weekly. “Bradley has been gravitating to father figures during the years since his own dad died, and nobody has played a more important advisory role to him in that time than Victor.”
