When season 27 of Dancing With the Stars came to an end, Bobby Bones walked away with the coveted mirrorball trophy. And now, this beloved radio personality is opening up about what this victory means to him, sharing that it ranks among the most significant moments of his life so far.
“I’m gonna go ahead and call it my greatest achievement to date,” the 39-year-old exclusively told Closer Weekly in a candid conversation. “Now, don’t get me wrong—it’s not the most important thing I’ve ever done. I’ve been fortunate enough to be involved in some incredible causes that mean the world to me. But let’s be real, no one saw this coming. I mean, I’m not exactly a household name, and yet, they gave me this incredible opportunity. And then, against all odds, I won when Vegas had me at the bottom of the list. It just goes to show you the power of the people. I represent the everyday person, and I learned one thing: don’t mess with the people because they’ll always have your back!”

And just in case you were wondering, Bobby hasn’t forgotten about that shiny mirrorball trophy. “Last night, I watched the second episode of DWTS with that trophy right beside me in bed,” Bobby joked. “I was caressing it all night long. It was a magical experience! Now, most of the time, it stays in my living room on a pedestal. When people come over, I insist they bow to it—it’s earned that respect!”

But don’t expect to see Bobby dancing anytime soon outside of the competition. “Nah, nah, nah. I don’t dance anymore,” Bobby confessed. “We’re gearing up for the next season of American Idol, which starts filming on Monday. Me, Luke Bryan, Katy Perry, Lionel Richie, and Ryan Seacrest are all back in action. We’re hitting the road to Savannah, GA, and Milwaukee in the next couple of weeks, searching for the next big star. And in the meantime, I’m out here doing stand-up comedy tours across the country and hosting my national radio show every single day.”
Bobby’s Picks for Season 28 of Dancing With the Stars
Though his dancing days are behind him, Bobby still has an eye on the competition and has a few predictions for who might take home the trophy this season. “Alright, I’m gonna level with you—I don’t have any bias at all… except for Lauren Alaina,” he admitted. “I personally convinced her to join the show. She performed on my season last year, and let me tell you, Lauren is one of my closest friends. I told her, ‘Lauren, you’ve got to do this. You’re gonna love it!’ So, she postponed her entire tour to be on DWTS. I also know Hannah B. and James Van Der Beek, and I think those three—Hannah, James, and Lauren—are the top contenders this season.”
