Let’s slow things down for a moment. Julianne Hough and her husband, Brooks Laich, are all about the idea of having kids someday, but right now, they’re not rushing into it. In an open and heartfelt chat, Julianne shared her thoughts on motherhood and the expectations that often come with marriage.
“I’m not ready for kids at this point in my life, but that doesn’t mean I won’t want them in the future,” said Julianne, the vibrant judge on America’s Got Talent, during a recent interview with ET. At 31, she’s focused on her career and personal growth but acknowledges that her vision for the future still includes family. “Having kids has always been part of my long-term dreams,” she added. However, she recognizes the societal pressure many couples face to start a family immediately after tying the knot.

Julianne explained how societal norms around parenthood have evolved. “We’re living in a different era now, where the old-school expectations don’t necessarily apply,” she said. “I have an amazing life where I get to nurture and care for so many people in different ways. So who knows what the future holds?” While she might not have biological children yet, Julianne finds fulfillment in mentoring young talents like Luke Islam on America’s Got Talent.
“People are my absolute favorite thing in the world,” she shared. “Even though I don’t have kids of my own, I feel like a proud mama when I see someone like Luke shining brightly. Watching him be his authentic self brings me immense joy and pride. It’s incredible to support others as they grow and discover who they truly are.”
Brooks Laich: Thoughts on Fatherhood
Meanwhile, Brooks Laich, the former professional hockey player, is also reflecting on what fatherhood means to him. Speaking to Us Weekly while promoting his popular podcast “How Men Think” with Gavin DeGraw, Brooks opened up about his evolving perspective on parenthood.
“I’ve been thinking more about what it means to be a father lately,” Brooks revealed. “When you enter a relationship, you start envisioning what it means to be a husband. Now, I’m considering what it means to be a dad. Bringing a new life into the world is such a profound responsibility. It makes you examine yourself—am I the kind of person who can guide and shape someone else’s life positively? Have I done enough to become the best version of myself for that role?”
