As we reflect on his incredible life, his son Zachary is opening up about what it was like growing up as the child of such a beloved figure. In a heartfelt conversation with Good Morning Britain, Zachary shares both the joys and challenges of having a famous dad.
Life in the Spotlight: Zachary Reflects on Being Robin's Son
Zachary Williams, now 36, has taken some time to reflect on his experiences as the eldest child of the late Robin Williams. He shares that while having Robin as a father was an incredible gift, it wasn't without its difficulties. "Being Robin Williams' son was absolutely wonderful in so many ways," Zachary begins, "but there were times when having to share him with the entire world felt overwhelming." He goes on to explain the emotional toll it took on him watching his father battle personal challenges while still giving his all to his fans. "Even when he was going through tough times, he always wanted to bring joy and laughter to others," Zachary says, his voice filled with admiration. "That was just who he was."
Despite the struggles, Zachary acknowledges his father's incredible strength. "Even when he was dealing with his own pain, he would still go out and perform," Zachary recalls. "That's what made him so special. He was this amazing force who could light up a room, and yet, behind closed doors, he was battling his own demons. Watching that was heartbreaking, but it also made me admire him even more."

Zachary's Role as a Supportive Son
As the oldest of Robin's three children—joined by sister Zelda, 29, and brother Cody, 27—Zachary often found himself in the position of trying to support his father during tough times. "As a family member, you want to do everything in your power to help," he explains. "But sometimes, there's just nothing you can do. There were moments where I felt completely helpless, like I didn't know how to ease his pain. It was hard to see someone I loved so much suffer in silence." Robin wasn't always open about his struggles, which added another layer of complexity to the situation. "We noticed over time that he wasn't always willing to share what he was going through," Zachary admits. "But we all loved him so much, and we did everything we could to be there for him."
