It’s been nearly a decade since Marie Osmond lost her beloved son, Michael Blosil, in a heartbreaking tragedy. Yet, the legendary singer and performer has found a way to keep her son’s memory alive through her music. In a heartfelt message to her 175,000 Instagram followers, Marie opened up about how Michael continues to inspire her artistic journey, especially her unexpected turn toward opera.

Why Opera? A Mother’s Tribute to Her Son

Marie recently shared her reasons for venturing into opera, a genre that might surprise fans familiar with her country and pop hits. "Someone recently asked me why, after all these years of success in country, pop, and Broadway, I chose to sing opera," she wrote on Instagram last June 30. "Well, it’s because my son Michael loved it." The 59-year-old icon revealed that this shift wasn’t just about expanding her musical repertoire—it was deeply personal, a way to stay connected to her son.

Michael’s Lasting Impact

In 2010, Marie faced an unimaginable loss when Michael took his own life at just 18 years old. "Michael’s passing left a hole in my heart that will never be filled until I see him again," the star of Donny and Marie candidly admitted. "When I sing his favorite genre, and more specifically the song ‘Pie Jesu,’ I can feel his presence, and that brings me such joy!" Marie explained how performing these pieces isn't just about honoring Michael—it’s a profound way to connect with him spiritually.

Marie, who is also the proud mother of Stephen, Jessica, Rachael, Brandon, Brianna, Matthew, and Abigail, recalled the special bond she shared with Michael over their mutual love for opera. "I went to his grave on Friday when I arrived in Utah and told him that Saturday’s Symphonic show was for him," she shared. Their connection through music gave her strength and comfort during one of the most difficult times of her life.

As the soon-to-be host of The Talk, Marie has been unflinchingly honest about her journey through grief. She described how this particular performance, captured in the photo she shared, felt especially meaningful because of Michael. "The mountains I sang in front of are my metaphor for climbing and never giving up," she explained. "Remember, when life gives you more than you can stand... kneel."

    Learning to Live Again

Earlier this year, the former Dancing with the Stars contestant opened up about the ongoing process of coping with her son’s death. "You keep living. I thought I knew what sorrow was, but you don’t ever truly understand until you’ve lived through it," she confessed to Closer Weekly in January. "There’s no joy in sorrow, as the Scriptures say, but I’ve come to realize that the joy they’re talking about is looking at someone else who’s been through what I’ve been through and saying, 'I understand.' There’s joy in loving others and knowing how they feel, and helping them get through it too."
